Falaj 3: The Long Name

  • First blood: still open

The shell splits what you type into words at each space. That is convenient until a file name contains spaces, and then a command sees several names instead of one. Brackets and other punctuation cause a related problem, because the shell gives many of them a special meaning.

This level has a directory with several similar file names. Exactly one of them holds the password for the next level, and its name contains spaces and square brackets. Your task is to print it without breaking the name apart. Quoting is the tool: putting the name in quotation marks, or escaping each troublesome character, tells the shell to treat it as a single item.

Do not rename or delete files to get round the problem. Learn to quote them. This is a simulated shell over invented files: it understands a teaching subset of commands, and help lists them. When you have the password for level 4, run login 4 <password> or paste it into the answer box.
