RESULT

Fill in the form and run the tool; the result appears here.

Interface Description Generator produces consistent interface and description configuration lines for one interface or a range, from the connected device, location and VLAN you enter, or from a description pattern you define once.

How to read the result

The output is a configuration block ready to copy: an interface stanza with its description line, the switchport mode access and switchport access vlan lines when you give a VLAN, and no shutdown. With an empty pattern the description reads device - location, then the VLAN.

Defender tips

  • Consistent interface descriptions cut incident response time directly: an engineer can tell what a port is for from the running configuration alone, without paging anyone or hunting through a spreadsheet.
  • Document uplinks and inter-switch links with the peer device and port explicitly named in the description; this is exactly the information that goes stale first if it is only kept in a separate document.

FAQ

Does it support a range of interfaces at once?

Yes. In range mode, enter a range such as Gi1/0/1-24 (up to 256 interfaces) and choose one shared interface range block or one block per interface, each with its own description.

Can I customise the naming pattern?

Yes. The pattern takes the tokens {interface}, {index}, {device}, {location} and {vlan} in any order, so the output matches your organisation's existing naming convention rather than imposing a new one.

Does this touch a live device?

No, it only generates configuration text for you to review and apply yourself.
