Penetration testing in Bahrain
Delivered remotely from Muscat or on-site in Manama, against Central Bank of Bahrain Rulebook requirements, the Personal Data Protection Law and PCI DSS.
Regulations we test against
Central Bank of Bahrain Rulebook
The CBB Rulebook's cyber security requirements expect licensees, from retail banks to payment and crypto-asset firms, to run regular independent penetration tests of their systems and to evidence remediation. Our reports are written for that evidence trail: scope, method, findings, fixes and the retest result in one document.
Personal Data Protection Law
Bahrain's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 30 of 2018) applies to organisations processing personal data in the Kingdom. Findings that expose personal data are flagged with the PDPL implication so your data protection officer can assess any duties that follow.
Government and national guidance
Government entities work with guidance from Bahrain's National Cyber Security Center. Our government reports group findings by control area, with a short summary for the entity's leadership.
PCI DSS and ISO/IEC 27001
Card processors and payment fintechs fall under PCI DSS requirement 11; reports include segmentation checks and the retest evidence a QSA expects. Most Bahraini enterprises hold or pursue ISO/IEC 27001, and findings carry the control references.
What is usually in scope
Bahraini scopes are often focused: a payment platform and its merchant API, a mobile banking application, a customer portal, or the corporate perimeter with VPN and email. Fintechs in the CBB regulatory sandbox typically need one product assessed before launch. Larger banks add internal Active Directory assessments, segmentation reviews and wireless testing across branches. Government entities add citizen portals and shared-service integrations. Because Bahrain is a regional financial hub, many platforms we test serve customers across the GCC, so we test authorisation across tenants and jurisdictions, and the boundary between the Bahraini entity and group services run from elsewhere.
Delivery model
Manama is one hour behind Muscat and a short flight away. Web, mobile, API and external network work runs remotely; internal and wireless testing runs on-site or through a drop-box. Evidence can be held in Bahrain on request.
Built for fintech timelines
Sandbox and newly licensed fintechs usually need a clean report before a launch date, not a quarter-long programme. We scope small engagements in a single call, without minimum-fee surprises, and schedule testing around your release. Confirmed criticals are reported the same day so your engineers can fix while we test. With the report we provide a short attestation letter summarising scope, method and retest result, which you can attach to your submission. The free retest within 90 days means the CBB evidence loop closes without a second contract.
How the engagement runs
Rules of engagement and excluded systems are confirmed in writing, testing runs with daily syncs, and the report is walked through with engineers and with the risk function. Arabic executive summaries are available on request. If your platform is built on a bespoke stack, our custom SaaS team can also review the architecture before launch.
Time-zone coverage
Arabia Standard Time, UTC+3, with no daylight saving. Working week Sunday to Thursday, the same as ours.
Recent engagements
Fintech, payment platform
An authorisation flaw in the merchant API allowed cross-tenant access to transaction records. Fixed and retested within a week, ahead of launch.
Bank, mobile application
Insecure local storage of session tokens and weak certificate validation. Both closed and retested within the bank's remediation cycle.
Government entity, web portal
Injection and access-control findings across a citizen services portal, prioritised by exposure and fixed in two releases.
All engagements are anonymised and described with client approval.
Why Vulnera here
Bahrain's financial sector is compact and moves quickly. Vulnera brings senior testers only, evidence for every finding, and a retest built in. For longer objective-based work see red teaming; for the full service description see penetration testing.
FAQ
Do you work with CBB sandbox fintechs?
Yes. Short, focused single-product assessments with fast turnaround are a large part of our Bahrain work.
How long does a single-product test take?
Usually one to two weeks from the scoping call to the report, depending on the size of the product and its APIs.
Can you test from Bahrain?
Yes for internal assessments; remote is the default for external work.
Are Arabic-speaking testers available?
Yes, for interviews and workshops, and executive summaries can be delivered in Arabic.
